Five Dimensions for Choosing a Honeymoon ShipDIMENSIONS
All Three Gorges cruises may look alike, but a honeymoon trip has completely different priorities from a family or seniors trip. Screen by these five dimensions:
① A balcony cabin is the bottom line
A room with a private viewing balcony — leaning on the rail together at dawn watching the gorge mist, falling asleep to the sound of the water at night — is the soul of a cruise honeymoon. We strongly recommend skipping room types without balconies.
② Suites and the VIP restaurant
Executive suites are about 25-35 sqm with VIP privileges; presidential suites are 40 sqm or more. Suite guests can usually use the VIP restaurant, with a quiet dining environment and better cuisine — maximum honeymoon ceremony.
③Night-view deck — choose a ship with a spacious open top deck and good evening lighting; ④Newer ship — new ships generally offer better interior styling, soundproofing, and bathrooms; ⑤A quiet deck and location — decks away from the engine room and entertainment areas give better sleep; ask us about cabin layouts when booking.
Recommended Cabins and Budget TiersBUDGET
By budget per person, honeymoons mainly fall into two tiers:
RMB 4,000-8,000 per person (main recommendation): the Yangtze Moonlight and Vista Aurora are new ships launched in the last two years with stylish interiors; their balcony cabin sizes and bathroom standards stand out at this price, and both honeymoon balcony cabins and executive suites can be found in this tier. The two ships are sisters with complementary schedules — which to choose depends more on the sailing dates and prices for your specific departure; off-season bookings often get better cabin availability.
Top tier (over RMB 8,000 per person): the Yangzi Explorer is the widely recognized top cruise on the Yangtze — only 148 guests at full load, a crew-to-guest ratio close to 1:1, a high proportion of suites and superb privacy, plus the special Shennongjia route and the experience of passing the ship lift on its own hull. It is the first choice for proposals, anniversaries, and premium honeymoons.
Onboard Celebration Services: Confirm with Us in AdvanceCELEBRATION
For honeymoons, proposals, and anniversaries, most cruise lines can arrange some form of celebration (room decoration, special restaurant arrangements, cakes or fruit baskets, etc.), but the services and charges differ greatly between ships, and most require advance reservation and cannot be guaranteed after boarding. The right approach: tell us your requirements before ordering → we confirm with the cruise line which services and fees are available for that sailing → register in advance based on the written confirmation. Do not assume "we'll sort it out on board" — last-minute arrangements often cannot be fitted in on peak-season sailings.

River Night Views and Dam Passage: Honeymoon HighlightsSCENERY
Dawn and dusk on the Three Gorges are the golden hours for honeymoon photos: the majesty of Qutang Gorge, the grace of Wu Gorge, and the drama of Xiling Gorge, mountain silhouettes mirrored in the river — time for two on an undisturbed deck is the best memento. At night the riverbank lights are sparse and the stars are clear; the top deck is a natural stargazing platform.
The dam passage is also worth planning: join the Three Gorges ship lift excursion at your own expense (transferring to a sightseeing boat), or choose the Yangzi Explorer, which passes the ship lift on its own hull and feels the thrill of "a big ship taking an elevator" across the Three Gorges Dam; longer itineraries can pass the five-stage ship lock and the Gezhouba lock on the same hull. Actual arrangements follow each cruise line's schedule.
Itinerary Pace: Upstream or Downstream?RHYTHM
For honeymoons we usually recommend the upstream route (Yichang → Chongqing, 5 days 4 nights): slower sailing, ample time on board, more lectures and activities, several "complete days" together on the ship, and typically lower fares than downstream. If time is tight, choose downstream (Chongqing → Yichang, 4 days 3 nights), which barely sails at night so rest is unaffected. Sights and services are essentially the same in both directions.
Booking TipsBOOKING
Book honeymoon-season tickets early: some sailings offer early-bird discounts — booking 60 or more days ahead qualifies for early-bird pricing; peak-season and holiday sailings sell out fast and suites are scarcer, so order early. Real-name booking requires both travelers' document details in advance; fare standards differ for travelers from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and foreign travelers — please consult customer service directly. See the FAQ for more rules; refund and change standards are subject to the written confirmation at the time of booking.
