D1 | Chongqing Chaotianmen: Evening Boarding, Sailing That Night
Boarding generally begins around 18:00 in the early evening, departing around 21:00 the same night (if channel controls apply, guests may instead be transferred by coach to Fengdu or Fuling to board, meeting in Chongqing around 14:00-16:00). During the day you can tour downtown sights such as Jiefangbei and Hongyadong before heading to Chaotianmen Pier; after boarding, check in and attend the safety briefing, and there is usually a welcome party or crew performance in the evening. Exact boarding and disembarkation times are subject to customer service's notice one day before boarding.
D2 | Fengdu Ghost City: Shore Tour of the Mingshan Scenic Area
The ship docks at Fengdu in the morning for a tour of Fengdu Ghost City (Mingshan Scenic Area), famous for its "ghost culture": ancient temple complexes built along the hillside, along with sights such as the Bridge of Helplessness and the Hall of the Son of Heaven — one of the most distinctive shore excursions along the Three Gorges. Some ships arrange a cable car up the hill (cable car fees are generally at your own expense). In the afternoon the cruise continues along the Yangtze, usually overnighting on the river or moored at a pier.
D3 | Shennong Stream or Lesser Three Gorges: Transferring to Small Boats into a Tributary
Entering the Wu Gorge section, most ships arrange a visit to either Shennong Stream or the Lesser Three Gorges (Daning River): transfer to a small sightseeing boat into the tributary, where sheer cliffs face each other across a deep gorge, with hanging-coffin relics visible on the rock walls. In the afternoon the ship passes Wu Gorge, with distant views of Goddess Peak from the deck. In the evening you may join the onboard party at your own expense or rest freely.
D4 | Three Gorges Dam → Zigui Port, Yichang: Disembark and Return
In the morning the ship passes the eastern section of Xiling Gorge and docks for a tour of the Three Gorges Dam Scenic Area (Tanziling, the 185 Platform, the River Closure Memorial Park, etc.) for a close-up look at this monumental project; after the tour, return to the ship for a short shuttle or gather at the pier, generally disembarking at Zigui Port (or Maoping Pier) around midday to end the trip. Transport Advice After Disembarking in YichangTRANSPORT
The downstream itinerary ends with disembarkation in Yichang (around Zigui Port/Maoping Pier, about 60 km from downtown Yichang). Common onward options after disembarking:
① Back to downtown Yichang: Most cruise lines arrange a free transfer coach on disembarkation day, taking travelers from the pier to a designated spot in downtown Yichang (usually around the Three Gorges Visitor Center/Jiu Matou). Board at the time and meeting point announced on board; the ride takes about 1-1.5 hours.
② To Yichang East Railway Station (high-speed rail): The transfer coach can usually drop off near Yichang East Station; travelers disembarking early can connect to high-speed rail that same afternoon to Wuhan, Chongqing, or their onward destination. We recommend booking trains after 16:00 to allow ample road-transfer time.
③ To Yichang Sanxia Airport: The airport is southeast of downtown, about 40-60 minutes by car from the city center; we recommend booking flights after 18:00 to avoid a rushed transfer. Taking a taxi yourself from Zigui Port to downtown or the airport is also a viable option.

Will I get seasick on a downstream cruise?
The Three Gorges reservoir has calm water and the hulls are large — seasickness is very rare. Downstream sailing with the current is especially smooth, suiting travelers worried about motion sickness.
Can a downstream cruise pass the five-stage ship lock on its own hull?
Most Chongqing-Yichang cruises do not pass the lock on their own hull; instead they dock at a port upstream of the dam and travel over the dam by coach.
