Summer Schedule and Water Levels: Gorges at Their Most SpectacularWATER
June-August is the Yangtze's high-water season: the river is wide and water is abundant, and the grandeur of the "high gorge, calm lake" is most striking in summer — the majesty of Qutang Gorge and the depth of Wu Gorge are both more spectacular with more water. During this period the Three Gorges reservoir levels are regulated flexibly, and the chances of passing the ship lock or watching the dam discharge floodwater are also worth looking forward to.
Summer sailings run as normal, with dense schedules from each brand's flagship ships and plenty of choice. Note that in extreme weather the authorities may issue no-sail or restricted-sailing notices or arrange transfers; if this happens, please cooperate with the cruise line's and our arrangements.
Hot Weather: Sun and Rain Protection GearSUN CARE
Temperatures along the river are high in summer and the sun is intense, so protection is essential when sightseeing on deck. Recommended gear:
· Sun protection: high-SPF sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses, sun-protective clothing; go up on deck in the morning or evening whenever possible;
· Rain protection: summer brings frequent showers that can be heavy — a compact raincoat or folding umbrella is essential;
· Hydration: carry a water bottle and drink regularly;
· Clothing: breathable, quick-dry summer clothes, plus a light jacket — the ship's air conditioning is strong, and the deck is windy in the rain;
· Footwear: non-slip sandals or sneakers; steps can be slippery in the rain, so take extra care.
School Holidays: Cruise Arrangements with ChildrenFAMILY
The summer holidays are the peak season for family travel, and a cruise's "dining, lodging, transport and entertainment all on one ship" model is perfect for children: no repeated hotel changes or luggage hauling, children can play safely on board, and adults can genuinely rest.
Family travel advice:
· Room type: 2 adults and 1 child can share one room with an extra bed; for more space, book two rooms — children are charged per each ship's fare standards;
· Ship choice: prioritize newer ships with swimming pools and rich audio-visual entertainment; the Lesser Three Gorges sightseeing-boat transfer and the Three Gorges Dam visit are hugely appealing to children;
· Safety: watch children closely on the sightseeing deck, keep them away from railings, and accompany them throughout shore sights;
· Documents: children register under real-name rules with their household registration booklet or ID card original — prepare them before departure.

Price Advantage: Better Value in the Shoulder SeasonPRICE
In the Three Gorges cruise calendar, June-August is shoulder season — between the spring/autumn peaks and the winter low season. For the same ship and the same room type, prices are usually lower than in peak season, making it a good time to "stay on a better ship for less".
Outside the peaks of September, October, May and the period after April 15, cabin supply is ample for most of the summer and there is less pressure to book far ahead. That said, summer weekends and popular ships still sell out, so families planning to travel should still book early.
Note: The exact seasonal division and prices are subject to the written confirmation at the time of booking.
Frequently Asked QuestionsQ&A
Is it hot on the ship in summer? Do cabins have air conditioning?
Cabins and indoor public areas are all air-conditioned, so you can stay indoors during the day; the sightseeing deck is cool and comfortable in the morning and evening, and around noon we suggest staying indoors or in shaded areas.
Is there a swimming pool on board? Is there an extra charge?
Some cruises have swimming pools, mostly outdoor; guests can generally use them free of charge (for a few ships, heated water or opening hours are subject to the ship's rules). Bring your own swimwear.
